ELECTION PERMITS 12.05.2024

08/05/2024

Next Sunday, May 12 , all Catalans are called to the polls to exercise our right to vote in the elections corresponding to the Parliament of the Generalitat.

Below we detail the permits that companies must grant to their workers who provide services during the election weekend in order to facilitate their right to vote.

In general, the leave - paid and non-refundable - will be a maximum of 4 hours for all workers who work full-time on Sunday 12 May.

If the worker provides part-time services , the duration of the leave will be reduced in the same proportion as the working day. In other words, if you work 4 hours on Sunday 12 May (equivalent to 50% of the normal working day) your leave to exercise your right to vote will be halved (2 hours).

It will not be necessary to grant any type of permit to those workers who provide services in the afternoon/night shift who work a day that does not coincide, or that does so in less than 2 hours, with the opening hours of the electoral colleges (from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.). If the schedule matches more than 2 hours, but less than 4, the leave will be 2 hours .

In any case, the determination of the moment of use of the hours granted is the power of the employer.

For the purpose of payment of the salary for the time used to vote, the company may ask its employees to present proof of having exercised their right to vote issued by the corresponding polling station.

Finally, workers who are auditors or part of a polling station will have permission during the entire day of May 12 and the first 5 hours of the day of the 13th.

Workers who are proxies for any party will have leave throughout the day of the vote.

If the worker provides services in the night shift and is affected by any of the previous cases, the night before election day, the company will have to change his shift so that he can rest.
